Peabody Energy has congratulated Ostwald Bros and other contractors at its Baralaba Mine operations in the southern Bowen Basin for one year without a lost-time incident.

Ostwald Bros is a subcontractor under principal contractor Downer EDI (Roche) and was among those companies acknowledged for achieving an impressive safety record.

All of the contractors currently operating at Baralaba achieved zero lost-time incidents in the past year including employees from Ostwald Bros – one of three subcontractors working at the mine site since June 2005.

Ostwald Bros CEO Brendan Ostwald added his congratulations to the Ostwald Bros team for their contribution to the safety achievement.

“Ostwald Bros aims for the highest safety standards to ensure a safe work environment for its employees and we are very pleased to be part this safety milestone at Baralaba,” Mr Ostwald said.

The open cut operation employs 50 full-time contractors and produces metallurgical PCI and thermal coal that is crushed and screened to produce a product suitable for export to Japan.

A combination of scrapers, excavators, loaders and rear dump trucks are utilised to produce the coal from extensive underground reserves.
