Ostwald Bros was a partner in the Earth Connect Alliance and joined two other building consortiums to deliver the Strategic Indigenous Housing and Infrastructure Program (SIHIP) - the largest housing program ever undertaken within the nation’s remote indigenous communities.
The project involved the design and construction of housing works packages in Northern Territory communities with an emphasis on training and jobs for indigenous people. By training indigenous people SIHIP aimed to achieve a sustainable workforce in each community capable of completing ongoing maintenance and management of the housing.
The construction works incorporated the demolition and replacement of existing housing, as well as the construction of new houses, subdivisions, reticulation and essential infrastructure.
SIHIP is an innovative initiative that aims to address housing needs in remote communities in ways that re-build community norms and support healthy outcomes for families.
Work began in April 2009 and Ostwald Bros' involvement wrapped up in March 2010.
